Child Health Partnerships: a review of program characteristics, outcomes and their relationship.

Novel approaches are increasingly employed to address the social determinants of health of children world-wide. Such approaches have included complex social programs involving multiple stakeholders from different sectors jointly working together (hereafter Child Health Partnerships).

There was evidence of success in several major areas from the formation of effective joint operations of partners in different partnership models to improvement in both child wellbeing and parenting. There is emerging evidence that Child Health Partnerships are cost-effective. Population characteristics and local contexts need to be taken into account in the introduction and implementation of these programs.

‘More and more rules’ on pregnancy

The Changing Parenting Culture conference next week is to explore the emergence of what it sees as new, often contradictory rules shaping pregnancy and pregnancy planning.

These include the role of stress in pregnancy, amid conflicting reports on the impact of the way a mother feels on the wellbeing of the growing foetus.

Some studies have suggested that stress in pregnancy can cause anything from physical abnormalities to behavioural problems.

Stiletto warning for pregnant women

Pregnant women are risking their feet in the name of fashion by wearing the wrong types of shoes, experts warn.

A poll of 1,000 pregnant women for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists found many regularly wore ballet pumps, flip flops, high heels and Ugg boots.

But Lorraine Jones from the society says none of these shoes are suitable because they offer little support.
